Rating scale


A rating scale is a typical answer format in market research and is used to measure and assess certain characteristics or items.
Rating scales are divided into equal and labeled sections. They often consist of 1 to 5 steps but there can also be more steps (e.g. 1 to 7 or 1 to 10). The different sections of the rating scale are either labeled with text or with numbers.
Survey participants are asked to tick the category of the rating scale which matches best their subjective value of the characteristic or item in question.
